Day 1: Arrival in Leh (3,500m/11,500 ft)
Arrive at Leh airport and transfer to your hotel. Spend the day acclimatizing to the high altitude with rest essential to prevent altitude sickness. Explore Leh's local markets and ancient streets at a leisurely pace. Visit nearby Shanti Stupa for panoramic city views, particularly beautiful at sunset. Take a gentle evening walk and stay well-hydrated throughout the day. Overnight stay in Leh hotel. No trekking today—focus on acclimation and preparation.

Day 2: Acclimatization & Exploration (Leh - 3,500m)
Second acclimatization day to adjust to high altitude. Visit Leh Palace, a 9-story royal residence offering stunning town views. Explore Hemis Monastery, housing priceless Buddhist artifacts and manuscripts. Visit local monasteries and immerse yourself in Ladakhi Buddhist culture. Optional leisurely walk around Leh town. Day 3: Drive to Skiu & Trek to Sara (70 km drive, 11 km trek, 5-6 hours)
Early morning drive (2-3 hours, 70 km) through scenic Ladakh landscape to Skiu village (3,400m/11,150 ft) near the Zanskar River. Begin trekking into Hemis National Park via the pulley bridge crossing. Trek 11 km through the emerald Markha Valley floor to Sara village (3,600m/11,800 ft), passing through traditional Ladakhi settlements. Experience your first taste of valley trekking with moderate elevation gain. Overnight stay in local homestay or tent accommodation.

Day 4: Sara to Markha (10 km, 5-6 hours, 3,700m)
Trek along the glacial Markha River, passing through small agricultural villages with barley fields and verdant terraces contrasting the surrounding arid peaks. Approximately 10 km trek with minimal elevation gain. Reach Markha village (3,700m/12,200 ft), the largest settlement in the valley with around 20 households. Visit the historic gompa and ancient fort ruins perched above the village. Experience authentic homestay life. Overnight stay in Markha.

Day 5: Markha to Hankar (13 km, 7-8 hours, 4,100m)
Trek 13 km north through the valley with moderate elevation gain of 400 meters. Pass through Umlung village and visit the stunning Teacha Gompa cliffside monastery. Witness the first clear views of Mt. Kang Yatse (6,400m) rising majestically. Experience multiple river crossings and trekking through diverse terrain. Reach Hankar village (4,100m/13,400 ft), the valley's last major settlement. Observe grazing yaks and dramatic rock formations. Overnight stay in Hankar homestay.

Day 6: Hankar to Nimaling (12 km, 7-8 hours, 4,800m)
Challenging day with 700-meter elevation gain over 12 km. Trek through increasingly barren alpine terrain transitioning to high-altitude pasturelands. Pass through Tigu Lakes area with spectacular views of Kang Yatse and surrounding peaks. Reach Nimaling (4,800m/15,800 ft), a vast high-altitude meadow where nomadic shepherds bring their herds during summer grazing season. Optional acclimatization hike to Kang Yatse glacier base for enthusiastic trekkers. Overnight stay in high-altitude tent camp at Nimaling.

Day 7: Nimaling to Chokdo via Kongmaru La & Drive to Leh (13 km trek, 60 km drive)
Most demanding day crossing Kongmaru La Pass (5,260m/17,260 ft), the trek's highest point. Trek 2 hours to the pass witnessing breathtaking panoramic views of Karakoram and Ladakh ranges. Long steep descent of 11 km to Chokdo village (3,900m/12,900 ft) in the Shang Valley, descending 1,360 meters. Navigate rocky terrain through Chikirmo village. Drive 60 km (2-3 hours) back to Leh. Overnight stay in Leh hotel, celebrating trek completion.
